Cordi's crime volume decreases By Ernie N. Olson Jr.
THE total crime volume in Cordillera reportedly went down from 433 cases in the first quarter of 2005 to 370 cases during the same period this year.
A similar situation was depicted in the city after the Baguio City Police Office reported that for the same comparative period, a decrease of 26 cases or 10.44 percent resulted after 249 cases were recorded from January 1 to April 30 last year while 223 cases were logged within the same period this year.
Regional Police Director Raul Gonzales said "this only shows that the campaign against criminality is seriously being implemented in the entire region." He said that although the Cordillera police only attained a 84.05 percent crime solution efficiency (CSE) this quarter compared to 87.07 percent last year, a 100 percent CSE for non-index crimes was attained by all police offices in the province region last year.
Of the 30 index crimes recorded in Abra, 17 of them were solved, giving the police there a 56.67 percent CSE in 2006 compared to 62.75 percent last year.
Ten out of 13 index crimes were also solved in Apayao, which has a 76.92 percent CSE this year compared to 63.16 percent last year.
The Benguet, Ifugao and Mount Province provincial police offices showed a decrease of their CSE from 83.33 to 78.57, 75 to 52.94 and 84.62 to 78.57 percent of index crimes solved, respectively. The Kalinga Provincial Police Office, on the other hand, showed an increase in its efficiency from 64.71 to 76.19 percent this year.
A 100 percent crime solution efficiency for non-index crimes was attained by all provincial police offices last year.
Only Abra and Kalinga experienced a drop in their efficiency this quarter from 93.33 and 90.91, respectively. This resulted after Abra noted the highest number of murder cases this quarter with 14 reported.
Baguio City leads with 49 cases of physical injuries, 16 robbery cases, 56 theft cases and 57 non-index crimes. Of the 253 index crimes, 196 were solved, representing a 77.47 percent CSE, while a 98.29 percent CSE for non-index crimes was attained, when 115 index crimes were solved out of the 117 cases reported.
The Cordillera Regional Police Office reached an 84.05 percent CSE this quarter compared to 87.07 percent last year. With these results, the average monthly crime rate of 9.25 percent in 2005 has decreased to 7.75 percent this year.
