Board members want Apayao's police head to lead Benguet
THE Provincial Board (PB) of Benguet wants its police office to be supervised by an individual who is a native of the locality for a more effective implementation of peace and order programs.
Members of the PB endorsed Apayao Provincial Police Chief Donato Bacquian as head of the Benguet police. The endorsement is addressed to Police Regional Director Raul Gonzales.
In a resolution sponsored by the PB committee on peace and order, it claimed that having Bacquian as provincial police director for Benguet would ensure more cooperation among the police and the province's constituents, since he is a native of Buguias.
"A provincial director who understands and appreciates the customs, traditions, and indigenous practices of the people of Benguet is a major factor that ensures cooperation, and excellent relations between the police force and those they have vowed to serve and protect," the PB stated.
Governor Borromeo Melchor also nominated Bacquian to lead the Benguet Provincial Police Office.
Bacquian is said to be the first officer from Benguet who would lead the provincial police if the endorsement is granted.
The Benguet Provincial Police Office is headed by Arellano Bumanglag, a native of Cagayan Valley. (JC)
