Folks push pact on dumpsite operation By Jane Cadalig
WHILE the local government of La Trinidad is all set for the operation of its controlled dump facility in Barangay Alno, officials here have manifested their request again for the execution of an agreement to ensure the protection of their environment as well as the health of their residents.
The Alno Barangay Council, in a resolution, said there should be a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the Municipal Government and the barangay, which shall contain the terms and conditions regarding the operations of the ecological solid waste facility. Alno, which is around five kilometers away from La Trinidad’s central business area, is the site of the municipality’s controlled dumping facility.
Among the concerns they want addressed by the locality is the assurance that Alno residents are given priority in terms of employment.
They also said precautionary measures such as the establishment of a perimeter fence should be implemented.
The improvement of roads leading to the area as well as the assurance that the local government shall address health problems of residents, as it may result once the facility is made functional, were also requested.
The Barangay Council stressed that it shall have the right to sue the municipal government in case of its non-compliance with the supposed terms and conditions to be stipulated in the MOA.
La Trinidad is expected to initially operate the controlled dumpsite on July 1 this year.
