Benguet U gears up for 90th Foundation Week

ALL is set for the 90th foundation anniversary celebration of the Benguet State University (BSU) from June 26-30 with its weeklong list of activities.

With the theme "BSU: Enhancing Self-Reliance and Capability for Sustainable Development," the celebration will commence this morning with a motorcade along the main thoroughfares of La Trinidad, followed by an ecumenical service at the BSU gym.

The program will open at 10 a.m. with Benguet Governor Borromeo Melchor as guest of honor and speaker.

Activities highlighting the university's distinction as a center of excellence will also run for the whole week, which includes an exhibit by the Research, Development and Extension (RDE) Sector of BSU and a market encounter at the open gym, an exhibit of various books and instructional materials collected by the university over time, and eco-tours at BSU's Balili vegetable garden and nature's park on June 27 and 29.

Another weeklong activity is the "Alay sa Komunidad," which involves the provision of medical, dental, and veterinary services, as well as the creation of animal and plant clinics, and the conduct of soil analysis.

Students, led by the BSU Supreme Student Government (SSG) and members of the Religious Organization Council (ROC), will be staging a variety concert at 5 p.m. on June 27 at the BSU Gym for free.

The BSU's National Service Training Program (NSTP) group on June 28 will be sponsoring a bloodletting program dubbed "Bloodiest Rumble V". There will also be a BSU grand alumni homecoming, which will start at 8 a.m. at the closed gym. In the afternoon, the university will be paying tribute to the men and women who have made significant contributions to the success of the university through an awards and recognition program with William Dar, director-general of the International Center for Research in Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat) based in India, as guest of honor and speaker. Dar is a BSU alumnus.

The University Business Affairs (UBA) Office on June 29 will be sponsoring a seminar on entrepreneurship for free at the Gladiola Center, at 8 a.m., with Manuel Siggaoat, owner of Manel's and president of the Philippine Marketing Association (PMA), as speaker. This is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. A forum on opportunities for partnerships and linkages will also be held at the Strawberry Hall at 10 a.m. with Dar as speaker.

The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) on June 30 will sponsor a faculty/staff wellness and parenting seminar at the Strawberry Hall at 8 a.m. while at 2 p.m., there will be a seminar on free trade: trends and opportunities, also at the Strawberry Hall.

The weeklong affair will be capped by a closing program and recommitment of service at 5 p.m., with former Commercial Attache' Archimedes Gomez as guest of honor and speaker. (Press release)
