Benguet U certain of organic agri success
THE Benguet State University (BSU) administration is confident it could carry on with its organic agriculture programs despite the lack of funds to finance its advocacy campaign.
"It may take us sometime (to realize all the projects) but we believe we can attain our objectives," said Dr. Marlene Atinyao, dean of the College of Agriculture.
Atinyao is referring to the availability of financial resources to fund all the programs that the school is working out to realize its vision of totally converting the university into an institution that is for organic agriculture.
"We have no problem with regard technical manpower, what we are short of is in the budgetary aspect, that is why we are looking for other funding agencies to help us realize our objectives," she said.
The College of Agriculture is the lead department implementing the university's programs on organic farming.
Atinyao said they are producing organic seeds intended for use by the university and for commercial purposes but added that they still lack the necessary technologies for mass production.
The BSU aims to produce organic crops that would be promoted to the school's Home Economics department for its food-processing unit and to the College of Nursing.
BSU president Rogelio Colting earlier announced the university would soon be serving organic food and beverages to their guests. (JC)
