'90 ways to cook chayote' book, others launched in Benguet U
AS PART of the Benguet State University's (BSU) 90th Foundation anniversary celebration, several books were launched during the Books and Instructional Materials exhibit at the BSU Anthurium Hall.
Among those launched included the "90 Ways to Cook Chayote" by Jane Avila, Lory Balaoing and Norma Banania. The book also serves to support the Benguet Provincial Tourism Council's effort to showcase the utilization and versatility of chayote as a major crop in Benguet.
The recipe book contains 90 chayote recipes like chayote cheese soup, economical lasagna, and vegetable pastel.
Another book, the "Ethno Food Technologies of the Cordillera," also by Jane Avila and Lory Balaoing, is a documentation of the ethno-food technologies in Cordillera such as kinoday, inasinan, and kini-ing. The book captured these technologies in print for the future generations to appreciate and enjoy.
"Production and Postharvest Technologies of Vegetables in the Mid-Elevation and High Altitude Tropics" by Franco Bawang is inspired by the increase in the number of people engaged in vegetable production in the region who seek formal tutorship and advice.
The "Guide on Citrus Production in the Cool Highlands" by Alfredo Tipayno is a practical and simplified guide for beginners in citrus production to meet the challenges posed by the deluge of imported citrus fruits in the local markets.
Several research books were also launched by the Northern Philippines Root Crops Research & Training Center. These include "Sweet Potato Industry Profile in the Philippines" by Ines Gonzales and Teresita Masangcay; "Medicinal Value of Root crops and Other Related Crops" also by Ines Gonzales; "Cassava Industry Profile in the Philippines" by Esther Botangen, Grace Backian and Betty Gayao; "Potato Industry Profile in the Philippines" by Jocelyn Perez, Cynthia Kiswa and Paz Dalang; and "Minor Root Crops Industry Profile in the Philippines" by Dalen Melzoz, Betty Gayao and Constancio Pulinney.
