Thus agreed participating employers during the Reproductive Health seminar spearheaded by the Baguio-Benguet Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BBCCI) Tuesday.

"We have a serious problem on overpopulation," stressed Trinidad Cayading, an officer of the BBCCI and the City Health Services Office (CHSO) Population Division. She said population managers are advocating the promotion of reproductive health and family planning in the workplace, as problems at home usually involving family affairs are often brought to the workplace, resulting to lowered productivity.

The promotion of reproductive health, she explained, is a nationwide project initiated by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

Aside from lectures and advocacy campaigns, Cayading said coordination has already been made with company nurses for the distribution of condoms and contraceptive pills for a minimal fee.

Beatrice Gajite, another CHSO population officer, added that they also administer vasectomy for free.

Gajite echoed Cayading’s statement and explained that lowered productivity among employees would result to losses on the part of the company. While recognizing that companies are obliged to pay maternity benefits of employees, she said frequent availment of this benefit by employees who are not fully aware of advantages of family planning, would in the long run, affect the financial status of a company.
