City Camp lagoon under 24-hour watch By Rimaliza Opiña
BAGUIO City’s most flood-prone area is now under a 24-hour watch to ensure that no flooding will occur during the rainy season.
Mayor Braulio Yaranon said even before the onset of the rains, City Engineer Leo Bernardez had been advised to deploy personnel to the City Camp Lagoon drainage area to check that no clogging occurs there.
The regular monitoring of the tunnel will prevent the possible flooding in the barangay concerned, Yaranon said, adding that barangay officials were also told to coordinate with the city engineer’s office (CEO) for clearing operations.
Yaranon, meanwhile, appealed anew to residents nearby not to indiscriminately dispose of their garbage there, so as to avoid clogging the tunnel.
In barangays located near waterways, Yaranon also appealed for residents to voluntarily transfer to a safer location.
The mayor earlier said transferring to areas where there is less danger from landslides and floods at least assures that life, limb and properties are protected.
