The competitions are part of the city’s on-going Tree Festival and are open to high school and college students in the city. A certificate of enrollment must be attached with the registration forms.

The contests will be conducted on August 29 at the Baguio Convention Center starting at 8 a.m. Winners will be awarded cash prizes and tokens on September 4 at City Hall during the flag raising ceremonies. All participants will be given certificates of participation.

Registration forms are available at the following places: The public information office (c/o Gaby Keith) and Cepmo (c/o Archt. Josephine Chan) office at City Hall; STI College Baguio at Lucban Road (c/o Maggie Rillera); the Baguio City National High School principal?s office (c/o Dr. Elma Dona-al or Bernardita Quela) and the office of University of Baguio executive vice president Dr. Armando Galimba or Raffy Marzan at the NSTP office, UB.

Both the poetry writing and oratorical contests will be in English. The poetry writing and poster design competitions will be held on-the-spot where topics and mechanics will be announced during the contest day itself.

Coupon bonds will be provided the participants of the poetry writing tilt but are requested to provide their own pen or pencils. Cartolina paper will also be provided participants of the poster design contest but are asked to provide their own painting or drawing materials.

Those joining the oratorical contest are required to submit three copies of their original piece or speech on the contest day itself and will be given a minimum of three minutes and a maximum of seven minutes to deliver their oration. The pieces must be in English, type-written, double-spaced on a standard-sized bond paper and revolve on the subject of preserving, caring and protecting the environment, including the trees.

There will be three judges per contest who will select the top three winners of each category. Decisions of the judges are final and irrevocable.

Mayor Braulio Yaranon is the Tree Festival’s overall chairman with Councilor Erdolfo Balajadia and Cepmo head Josephine Chan as co-chairs.

The festival’s committee on poetry, oratorical and poster design contests is headed by Keith with Galimba, Dona-al, Rillera and Rachel Bugtong as members.
