Cordi folk warned v. forestland sale schemes
THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is asking city residents to be careful of associations enticing them with lot portions, which the association is working for to be segregated from forest reservations.
Environment Regional Executive Director Samuel Peñafiel said his office does not entertain request for segregation from forest reserve by associations. "All requests for segregation from forest reserves are handled on individual basis and subject to clearances from other concerned offices."
He said in the last Baguio Regreening Movement (BRM) meeting that many associations are directing their request for segregation of portions of land from forest reservations directly to Malacañang but that these are being referred back to the regional office of the DENR.
In a motion introduced by Mayor Braulio Yaranon in the same meeting, all requests for segregation from forest reserves, before acted upon by the DENR, should first secure clearance from the City Government and the BRM.
Aside from the usual clearances required by the DENR, all requests for segregation from forest reserves should also secure clearances from the City Government and the BRM.
It has been reported that only 37 percent of the total land area of Cordillera and 20 percent of Baguio are left with forest cover. (AK)
