Stats, registrar offices told to solve birth record glitches By Rimaliza Opiña
COUNCILOR Daniel Fariñas is urging the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) to properly coordinate with the National Statistics Office (NSO) on the submission of names of newborn babies to avoid inconveniences in the future brought about by erroneous entries in birth certificates.
While records submitted to the LCR contain the correct information regarding a newborn's name, Fariñas said that once these records are brought to the NSO central office, erroneous entries would soon be seen in birth certificates issued by the NSO.
While information in birth certificates can still be corrected by way of judicial action, the councilor said this becomes an additional burden to the person concerned as money has to be spent to correct erroneous entries.
"Erroneous entries may have been due to negligence in encoding in database thus can still be corrected. However, it would still be an additional burden to the affected party financially," he said.
