City worker lauded for honest deed
FOR people living on a hand-to-mouth existence, finding cash left by an unidentified owner would have been a ready relief, at least to sustain some needs of the family.
But not for Manuela Dawiguey, an employee of the City Environment and Parks Management Office (Cepmo).
After finding a blue envelope in one of the cubicles of the City Hall ladies room last September 8, Dawiguey did not even bother to open the envelope but immediately turned over the document to a City Hall personnel.
Unknown to her, the envelope is owned by Bombo Radyo reporter Precy Mangibat. The envelope contained important documents plus US$500 (P26,000).
Because of her honesty, the documents were returned only hours after it was declared lost by Mangibat. The documents and cash would be used for Mangibat's travel overseas.
In recognition, the City Council, through the committee on government affairs and personnel, submitted a proposed resolution commending Dawiguey. The proposal stressed that Dawiguey's honesty brought honor and pride not only to her family but also to employees of the City Government. (RO)
