36 kilos marijuana seized
By Jane Cadalig

COMBINED personnel of the La Trinidad and Tublay police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (Pdea) confiscated some 36 kilograms of dried marijuana plants and bricks loaded in a passenger bus in Tublay, Benguet Sunday morning.

Three suspects were also arrested during the operation, which was conducted at 9 a.m. Sunday. They were found to be in possession of 17 bricks and one sack of dried marijuana plants.

La Trinidad Police Chief Reynaldo Pawid identified the suspects as Friden Agbasil Colbo, 23; Juniper Bagesbes Anapen, 22; and Oswald Acdang Sed-ek, 20, all residents of the town.

Pawid said the illegal plants confiscated from the suspects, with a Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of P900,000, came from Barangay Badew, Kibungan, on board a Dakiwagan View Liner bus bearing license plate AYL-862.

Prior to the arrest, Pawid said they received a call from a concerned citizen informing them that three men were about to transport dried marijuana plants on board a passenger bus from Kibungan that day.

He said a team was then formed to conduct a checkpoint in Chagao, Tublay in coordination with the town's police and Pdea representatives, which led to the confiscation of the prohibited drugs.

Pawid said that the marijuana plants were about to be delivered to the lowlands. "Transactions are only done here in La Trinidad but the end market is in the Metro Manila areas," he said.
