Monday, October 30, 2006 Employment registration for students to begin
THE City Government, through the Public Employment Service Office (Peso), announced on Sunday the registration for Special Program for the Employment of Students (Spes) starting Nov. 2 until Jan. 31, 2007, during office hours at the City Hall.
Interested and qualified students should register in person at the Peso office within the given dates.
Applicants should be 15 to 25 years old enrolled and belong to families whose parents' or guardians' joint annual income (after taxes) should not exceed P36,000.
Upon registration, applicants should present true copies of birth certificates and the most recent income tax return forms of their parents, or as the case should be, certification of exemption from taxes issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
The Spes program as provided for by Republic Act (RA) 7323 provides employment opportunities to poor but deserving student during school breaks. The program, as implemented jointly by the local government unit (LGU) and the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) also has private corporations or business establishment as counterparts.
In Baguio where the Spes program has been going on for several years, business establishments partner with the City Government and opt to employ students during the summer term, thus providing them with job experience while earning for the regular semester's tuition and miscellaneous fees.
Peso Officer Romelda Frances Escano also called on former Spes grantees who wish to avail of the Summer 2007 program to personally register at the Peso office. They are advised to bring their 2006 Spes IDs.
A general orientation for interested Spes and their parents is also scheduled at 4 p.m., Feb. 11, 2007 at the City Hall Multi-Purpose Hall. (JF)
