Police issue traffic advisory for All Saints' Day

BETTER leave your car and walk your way towards the city cemetery on All Saints' Day. Leave home your firearm or bladed weapon, including your gambling cards and dice.

It is all right to bring food and water, but no alcoholic drinks. The police will also be on the lookout against bottled spirits brought in earlier and buried beside graves by people to avoid being checked at the gates. If you need flowers and candles, buy them in the market or along Harrison Road which the city has turned for the purpose, so as to help ease traffic flow along the road to the graveyard.

The advisory has been adopted by the police and the Oplan Kaluluwa committee headed by Councilor Galo Weygan for a smooth observance of the annual remembrance of the dead.

For those who prefer to ride, here's the traffic advisory: Naguilian Road, from the junction of Bokawkan up to Dominican, will be one way. So with Dominican Road up to Queen of Apostles, the whole stretches of San Luis, San Roque, Sofia de Vera and the first and second Quezon Hill roads.

Except trucks and buses, all private vehicles can pass through Naguilian Road. Those coming from the city and unloading at the cemetery will turn to the first road, San Carlos Heights and proceed to park at the Recoletos Seminary, Cooyeesan and Shangrila Village.

Taxicabs will unload at the back of Police Station 1 and take the San Luis/San Roque-Dominican-Queen of Peace route in going back to the central business district (CBD).

Jeepneys servicing Irisan, San Carlos Heights, NPC and others will turn right to Dominican Road and then take Queen of Peace on the way back to their parking area at the CBD. Their cemetery-bound passenger will be unloaded at the junction of First Road of San Carlos Heights.

Jeepneys plying the San Luis, San Roque, Asin and Nangalisan will take San Roque Road, turn right to Dominican and go down to Queen of Peace in returning to their terminal. They will unload at the back of Police Station 1.

Dominican jeeps will take Queen of Peace and Queen of Apostles when going back to the CBD. They will unload at the junction of Naguilian-Dominican intersection, before the welcome arch.

Quezon Hill jeeps going back to the city proper may take Quezon Hill First Road, turn left to Ferguzon Road; or take Second Road, Dominican and then Queen of Peace. Their cemetery-bound passengers will get off nine meters away from Naguilian Road to Second Road to Quezon Hill junction.

Guisad and Fairview jeepneys will return to the CBD through Sepic or Gaerlan roads and then Bokawkan Road. Only water delivery ambulance and police vehicles will be allowed inside the cemetery from 5 a.m. to 12midnight of All Saints' Day.

Parking ban will be in effect inside the cemetery, Naguilian Road, San Roque, San Luis, Dominican Road, Queen of Peace, Queen of Apostles and Sofia de Veyra. (RD)
