'Paeng' kills 2 in Cordi
By Jane Cadalig

TWO persons died and four others were injured as "Paeng" battered the Cordillera region Monday morning.

While the storm was forecasted to hit the provinces of Isabela and Cagayan the most, it did not spare Cordillera from the damages. It left Ifugao, Kalinga, and Abra without electricity.

The Regional Development Coordinating Council (RDCC) identified the two fatalities as Judy Ann Andiso, 4, of Botoan, Buguias, Benguet, and Agpawan Alyong, 53, of Lubuagan, Kalinga, who both died in landslides.

Andiso's mother, Julie who was also a victim of landslide, was brought to the Lepanto Hospital. Three other persons from Tiptop Ambuclao Road, Baguio City, meanwhile, were rushed to the Baguio General Hospital when their shanty was buried by landslide.

Damages in agriculture and infrastructure were estimated at P32 million and P17.7 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) barred vehicles from Metro Manila from coming to the city as means of protecting motorists from possible accidents. It declared all major thoroughfares leading to the city passable except for Kennon Road for safety measures.

Presidential chief of staff Michael Defensor, who was in the city to assess damages brought about by "Paeng", said the government's priority now is to restore power in areas that have no electricity.
