Economic body to hold 'Pezalubong'

THE Philippine Economic Zone Authority-Baguio City Economic Zone (Peza-BCEZ) is once again conducting its annual trade fair and exposition from Nov. 10, 2006 to Jan. 5, 2007 at the BCEZ Multi-Purpose Hall just in time for the Yuletide season.

This yearly undertaking of the Peza-BCEZ primarily aims to educate the public about Peza and its contributions to the nation's development as well as to give Baguio residents and local tourists a chance to buy world-class products made by the companies located in BCEZ and other Peza economic zones at affordable prices.

BCEZ administrator Tereso Panga said the Peza fair has been an annual attraction to Baguio City for many years now. He added that its existence has greatly contributed to increasing tourist arrival especially during the holiday season. This has been a regular part of the city's calendar of Christmas activities drawing some 65,000 visitors from all over the country.

Some of the highlights of this year's event is the conduct of the on-the-spot-painting contest involving the zone workers and employees, display and exhibit of Peza's partners in development from both the private and public sector. There will also be a Nativity that would only use materials used in production by the BCEZ locators.

This year, BCEZ has also approved the participation of different export oriented local manufacturers endorsed and recommended by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). They will also feature the One Town, One Product (Otop) of the DTI, which will showcase furniture, bamboo crafts, food preserves and other products of the Cordilleras. Others are selected manufacturers of fine silver jewelries, shoes and producers of ornamental plants.

Planned activities will be scheduled every Friday night during the night market. They will showcase workers and employees with their talents in singing and dancing. There will also be job fairs that will be conducted by the companies inside the business zone.

There will also be an exhibit by Baguio ace photographers Harley Palangchao, Ces Garcia and Dave Leprozo at the BCEZ administration building. (SP)
