Abra to host boy scouts' 2nd regional jamborette

BANGUED, Abra -- The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Abra Council would host the second regional jamborette of Ilocos and northeastern Luzon regions from December 6-10.

The jamborette would be held at the Borokibok Resort in Barangay San Miguel, Bucay with the theme "Scouting: A Brotherhood for Peace and Development."

Mayor Zita Valera, chairperson of the BSP Abra Council, said the province would accommodate over 5,000 boy scouts from 17 Boy Scouts Councils (BSC) from the Ilocos and northeastern Luzon regions. The provinces include Abra, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Batanes, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Viscaya, Benguet and the City of Baguio.

The jamborette is hosted by Abra in celebration of the commemoration of the diamond jubilee (60 years) of the Boy Scouting Movement (BSM) in Abra.

Governor Vicente Valera, BSP national board member who serves as the driving force behind the event, is soliciting support in any form from all sectors of the community for the success of this milestone in Abra.

Meanwhile, the commanders of the Abra Police Provincial Office (PPO) and the 41st Infantry Battalion (IB) of the Philippine Army (PA) based in the province have assured the public of the safety of the delegates to the five-day event in the remote jamborette site.

Meanwhile, 70 boy scouts and adult leaders representing the BSP Benguet Council would participate in the event.

The Benguet contingent would be composed of pupils and students from the different schools in the Department of Education (DepEd) Benguet Division.

This is the second regional jamborette. The first was held last year in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Scout executive Marie Glo Ramos-Dawagui would lead the contingent delegation with the assistance of scout unit leaders. She was installed in his latest post in a turnover ceremony on November 17.

Accomplishments of the BSP Benguet Chapter for the fourth quarter, said BSP Council Representative Bial Palaez, were street parade, grand opening and launching of National October Scouting Month at the Benguet Sate University (BSU), and the scout officials for a day.

Another special program was the launching of the Millennium Scout Partner (MSP), which is offered to citizens and corporate institutions supportive of the scouting movement.
