Wednesday, December 06, 2006 Congressman Mauricio Domogan basketball cup up
TOP cage team in the city and the nearby province of Benguet are expected to clash anew for basketball supremacy when the 2006 Congressman Mauricio Domogan Basketball Championship Cup gets going on December 17 at the Easter College (EC) gym.
Defending champions Evergold Trading (ET) and Benguet Capitol Employees (BCE) are out to defend their respective titles in the open and employees division they won in the inaugural staging of the tournament two years ago.
The ET nipped the University of Baguio Cardinals (UBC) in a two-game sweep of the best of three finals the same fashion Capitol employees captured their plum over surprise finalist Baguio Association of Night Spots (Bans).
The Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco), Total-Marcos Highway (TMH), and City Hall are just a few who are out to spoil the defending titlists' bid for a back-to back championship.
Retired police Colonel Alenjandre Layagan, the designated project director, said the tournament is divided into five brackets of competition, namely, Open division, Employees category, Inter-commercial, Inter-Club and the 19-and under bracket. System of play includes elimination phase, crossover semifinals and the best of three championships series.
Handcrafted trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each level of competition, which will culminate in February next year.
