THE Municipal Government of La Trinidad has all the reason to prepare early for the staging of the town's Strawberry Festival considering that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is set to grace the affair.
Mayor Nestor Fongwan said the President is expected to be the festival's guest of honor. The Strawberry Festival will start on March 18.
President Arroyo's visit is expected on the duration of the weeklong strawberry festival.
"We have to (revive) the baking of the giant strawberry cake as several visitors and (strawberry) farmers are clamoring for it," Fongwan said.
The public missed the serving of the famous giant strawberry cakes in 2005 and last year. It entered the Guinness Book of World Records for baking the largest strawberry shortcake in 2004.
The Municipal Government also scheduled the inauguration of the municipal gymnasium and the controlled solid waste management facility in Induyan, Alno simultaneous with the holding of the Strawberry Festival.
"We want to show to the President the capabilities of local government units (LGUs) in putting up these facilities," Fongwan said.
La Trinidad is the first LGU in Cordillera to establish a controlled dumpsite in compliance with the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act. (JC)
