Benguet's fiber gets boost

BENGUET's fiber industry will get a big boost as its silk products would be showcased in one of the biggest fashion events in Baguio.

The Heaven's Touch Planners and Coordinators (HTPC) will tap the silk products of Benguet to be used in its upcoming bridal fair and santacruzan festival.

The Weddings Made in Heaven (WMH), a bridal fair and fashion show, will have its fourth staging at the Baguio Country Club (BCC) on February 23 to 25 and would feature the silk produced in Benguet.

Aside from promoting the province's silk industry, the bridal fair also promotes the Benguet cut-flowers as these are among the major accessories used in the affairs.

Aside from the bridal fair, a bridal santacruzan will also be staged and will be part of the celebration of this year's Baguio Flower Festival (BFF).

Cynthia Tuason and Gigi Maranan, WMH organizers, said the activity was conceptualized to promote Baguio as a wedding destination. They said the undertaking is to raise the city's ranking as among the most preferred wedding venues in the country.

Baguio reportedly ranks 13th as the preference for wedding events. Tagaytay ranks first, followed by Boracay while Cebu and Davao ranks third and fourth, respectively.

"With WMH, we hope to change these statistics and make people look to the North as the place to go to," Tuason said. (JC)
