Police urged to arrest bingo bet collectors
By Jane Cadalig

LA TRINIDAD councilors asked the police to go after individuals collecting bets for the operation of the bingo sa barangay, saying the Municipal Council does not sanction the activity.

The Municipal Council on Wednesday passed a resolution directing the La Trinidad police to apprehend those engaged in bingo bets collection to put an end to such operation.

Councilor Henry Kipas said the operations of bingo sa barangay should be stopped as this has not been authorized by the Municipal Government.

"We have observed that there is an ongoing bet collection for bingo in the town that is why we moved for its stoppage because this activity is illegal. While the law allows the conduct of fund-raising activities in the barangays, this needs approval of concerned authorities and we, in the Municipal Council, have not yet allowed the operation of the bingo sa barangay," Kipas said.

He said the bingo sa barangay is being used as special fund raising activity, but there are procedures to be followed before this is conducted.

He said bet collection for bingo has been ongoing in La Trinidad for almost a week now. He said the activity must be stopped immediately, claiming this is being used as front for the illegal numbers game jueteng.
