Monday, February 12, 2007 Int'l discussion on learning styles to be held in Baguio
LEARNING through a good work environment would be the focus of an international conference to be held this week.
Dubbed as "International Conference on Learning, Being and Becoming," the forum would be held on February 17 at the Saint Louis University (SLU) Center for Culture and the Arts. This is organized by the Philippine Association for Teacher Education Cordillera Administrative Region (Pafte-CAR) in partnership with the Center for Learning and Teaching Styles Philippines (CLTS).
Pafte-CAR president and SLU College of Education dean Roque Bernardez said the concept of the conference is enhancing human relations in the workplace that inculcates values without compromising one's profession.
Prof. Hans Henrik Knoop, a renowned Danish educator, will be the main speaker. He is working closely with Harvard's Dr. Howard Gardner on the multi-site "Good Work" project, which identified individuals and institutions that exemplify good work -- a work that is excellent, socially responsible and meaningful to its practitioners -- and determined how best to increase the incidence of good work in society.
Knoop is a psychology professor at the Danish University of Education in Denmark. He authored five books and numerous articles on play, learning, and creativity that he presented in Europe and America.
Prof. Henry Tenedero, chairperson of the International Learning Styles Network (ILSN), Global Leadership Forum and president of the CLTS Philippines, is also one of the speakers for the conference. He also serves as the chapter convenor of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) alumni in Baguio.
Tenedero, a Baguio boy, took his graduate school program for Professional Education Leaders at the Harvard University and published a number of books on CLTS's advocacies for parents and educators alike.
Bernardez said the activity is a series of caravan. Other schedules are as follows: a breakfast session organized by the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF) and a session with the AIM Policy Center on its globalization lecture series on February 13; media conferences on February 14; session with school leaders organized by the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 3 to be held at the Fontana Convention Center in Clark on February; and a session with school leaders organized by the DepEd Region 1 at the Don Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen, Pangasinan on February 16.
Bernardez said the conference is open to all types of profession as it cuts across all sectors of society. A registration fee of P1,200 that includes meals and seminar materials is required.
