Monday, February 19, 2007 6 Baguio photographers featured at 'Panagbenga in Focus'
SIX local photojournalists are featured in a photo exhibit at Rumours starting February 16.
Dubbed as "Panagbenga in Focus", the one-month exhibit features the works of Baguio-based photojournalists Thom Picaña (Manila Times), Toots Soberano (Philippine Daily Inquirer), Zaldy Comanda (Tempo/Balita), Sly Quintos (Baguio Reporter), Nick Prill Calinao (ZigZag Weekly), and Jojo La Maria (Daily Tribune).
The photo exhibit is the first project of the Cordillera Press Photographers and Videographers Press Corps (CPPVPC), which La Maria heads.
"This is our contribution to the community and the first also to the press corps," said La Maria, who was inducted into office along with his fellow officers during the ribbon cutting Saturday night.
La Maria said the photo exhibit would be held in the future in different venues where local photojournalists could show not only their "eye" for news but also their artistic side.
At least 16 photographs will be featured tackling the annual festival, which is Baguio's most popular festivity. The oldest shot was taken in 2004 and the most recent was last year.
"We have chosen Rumours because it is in the heart of the city and where people from different walks of life meet and gather," La Maria said.
