No more rusting rides at children's playground: dads

BAGUIO City councilors are keeping their fingers crossed that bidding for the rehabilitation of the Children's Playground would start before the election ban so that initial upgrading of facilities in the area could begin.

Far from the rusting facilities, hard plastic, hard rubber and fiberglass are the materials that would make up the kiddie rides at the playground.

Councilor Perlita Chan-Rondez, chairperson of the City Council committee on tourism, parks and playgrounds, said the move aims to prevent the occurrence of accidents brought about by facilities that are not "child friendly."

For the second phase of the project, which would still need additional funding, is the upgrading of the playground's landscape, which would transform the area into a theme park similar to that of leisure sites in other parts of the country.

City Council public works committee chairman and Councilor Antonio Tabora Jr. said pre-fabricated rubber mats would be installed and a roof would also be put up to ensure the continuity of use of the Children's Playground even during the rainy season.

The vacant lot adjacent the Children's Playground, meanwhile, would be developed into a teenage park, where a graffiti wall and equipment for extreme sports would be built.

Long-term plans for the Burnham Park would, meanwhile, entail the privatization of some facilities, especially those that require high maintenance costs such as the skating rink and the swimming pool. (RO)
