Police plans underway for strawberry fest

AS THE local government of La Trinidad gears up for the staging of this year’s Strawberry Festival, extensive preparations are also underway on the part of the local police station.

Preparations done this year are more meticulous as government officials, to include President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, are expected to join the festivity.

Superintendent Reynaldo Pawid, La Trinidad Municipal Police Station chief, said this year’s festival would need the full cooperation of both the people and the community.

Aside from police officers, the assistance of civic groups, barangay officials, police auxiliaries and non-government organizations would be tapped to provide security and to maintain peace and order as the town celebrates the affair.

The force multipliers will take charge of security at other areas within the locality.

"The office will deploy around 85 personnel to concentrate on the security of the VIPs and to man traffic," Pawid said, adding that the Police Regional Office in the Cordillera would also be requested to deploy additional personnel to augment the municipal police.

Heavy traffic is expected as the police is planning to close the lane leading to Baguio City to pave the way for the civic parade on the opening day of the festival. This is still an initial traffic plan though, Pawid said.

The Strawberry Festival is scheduled on March 19 with Arroyo as guest of honor and speaker. (JC)
