VOTES in Baguio would surely be distributed due to a number of wannabes vying for the same position.
For the first time in Baguio's election history, nine candidates would slug it out for the mayoralty seat with former mayor Bernardo Vergara of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), Mayor Braulio Yaranon of the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP), acting Baguio Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. of the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi), acting Vice Mayor Leandro Yangot Jr. of the Liberal Party (LP), former mayor Ramon Labo of the Kilusan ng Bagong Lipunan (KBL), former councilor Elmo Nevada (PRP) and independent candidates Virgilio Bautista, Guillermo Hernandez and Felipe Ramos making up the roster.
The one-on-one fight between Baguio Representative Mauricio Domogan and Councilor Jose Molintas for the congressional seat, meanwhile, did not materialize as Thomas Tayengco of KBL and independent candidate Ramon Kindipan also filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the position.
Councilors Elmer Datuin, Daniel Fariñas, Faustino Olowan and Edilberto Tenefrancia; former Baguio police chief Roberto Ortega; and independent candidate Antolin Mascariñas are vying for the Baguio vice mayoralty post.
There are 50 candidates, meanwhile, for Baguio City Council seats.
