Acting Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. has called a meeting with representatives of the Ecological Solid Waste Management cluster of the city government Monday to finalize the activity.
He said the event aims to promote materials recovery and recycling as one option to address the waste problem in the city and to showcase the benefits of recycling as a livelihood endeavor.
It also seeks to encourage the participation of industrial waste generators and business establishments, local government units and government agencies in waste recycling and to help in the generation of private sector investments in the recycling industry.
Also as part of the Earth Month activities, Bautista ordered the observance of 'Housekeeping Day' at City Hall on April 19.
In a memorandum, the Acting Mayor directed the departments to clean offices, segregate waste, label them and put them out for collection by the City Environment and Parks Management Office (Cepmo).
Cepmo shall sell the collected recyclables during the buying event and give back to the departments the proceeds of the sales. (Aileen Refuerzo)
