Wednesday, April 18, 2007 Clamor for P125 wage hike continues
DESPITE the lack of support for the passage of a legislated wage increase, some labor groups continue to press for the approval of the P125 legislated wage increase.
Aldwin Quitasol said in a forum that the P10 increase approved by the Cordillera Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board last year is not enough to feed and sustain the needs of a family with six members.
Quitasol stressed the P125 wage hike asked for by employees nationwide is the best answer to the needs of low-income workers.
Last July, the RTWPB granted an additional P10 to the P225 daily pay of workers in the Cordillera. It also integrated the P51 cost of living allowance to the basic pay of private sector employees, regardless of their position, designation or status and irrespective of the method their wages are paid, but who receive the minimum wage of P225 per day shall be entitled to the adjustment.
Only distressed establishments, new business enterprises with total assets of P5-million and below and garment exporting firms with at least 50 percent export sale and with forward contracts with foreign principals were exempted from the order.Rimaliza Opiña)
