Tuesday, May 01, 2007 Transfer of staging areas for 2 barangays proposed
THE Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) has requested the Baguio City Government to transfer the staging areas of Barangays Happy Hallow and Camp 6 and other jeepney lines found near the agency's air monitoring station so as not to affect the results of air quality sampling.
EMB Pollution Control Division head Rolando Reyes said constant emissions of jeeps in the area affect the results of the monitoring by the agency. As such, the readings of the monitoring station could not be interpreted as a representation of the air quality of the whole central business district (CBD).
The air quality monitoring equipment was installed early this year but was made operational only last February. Real time air quality results are picked up by the station then relayed to the monitoring and recording room at the EMB.
Part of the put up of the equipment is an ad board that displays the CBD's air quality. But the installation of the ad board was put off as this had to be calibrated still.
Once the City Government relocates the affected jeepney lines, the public can make phone-in calls for real time air quality results, said EMB Regional Director Paquito Moreno. (RO)
