Cinderellas rule Baguio football cup

VETERAN strikers Annaliza Cabanilla and Shiela Barlovento contributed three goals apiece to lead the Baguio Cinderellas to victory in the ladies open division of the third Baguio Invitational Football Cup played April 28-29 at the Brent School grounds.

Cabanilla booted in the winner for the girls' hard-earned 1-0 triumph over tough University of the Philippines (UP) in the final under the seven-a-side format organized by the Baguio Football Club.

The victory made up for the Cinderellas' so-so fourth place finish in the Subic Beach Football that UP ruled a week before.

The girls topped the preliminaries with a 3-0 rout of Pampanga 1, 2-1 squeaker over Alumni and a 1-1 draw with UP resulting from an own-goal by defender Evangeline Gigan.

Cabanilla ad Barlovento combined for a 2-0 blanking of the Baguio Football Club in the semis to forge the title showdown. (RD)
