Monday, May 21, 2007 Dads to decide on Baguio Convention Center’s fate Monday
AFTER weeks of waiting, would the Baguio City Council finally accede to the request of Acting Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. and appropriate the P35 million advanced payment to the Government Service and Insurance System (GSIS)?
This concern might be addressed during the City Council's resumption of its regular session this afternoon.
Last Tuesday, Bautista appealed anew to the council to approve the amount, iterating the plan is only momentary and that measures would immediately be done to demand payment of the city shares from Camp John Hay from the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).
The 30-day deadline set by the GSIS for the take over of the Baguio Convention Center (BCC) already lapsed before the elections.
Bautista stressed advancing the amount would show that the City Government is in good faith and that it has the intention of fulfilling the tripartite agreement.
The council earlier postponed the appropriation of the amount and instead requested a meeting with the mayor to thresh out questions relative to the fulfillment of the parties concerned in the tripartite agreement. Some members also said that advancing payment from the city coffers is tantamount to amending the tripartite agreement forged between the city, BCDA and the GSIS.
The body was also apprehensive that the city might not be able to recoup the P35 million and decided to follow-up the President's commitment to personally see through the matter by meeting with BCDA president Narciso Abaya.
The supposed meeting was however overtaken by the campaign season. (RO)
