Benguet power firm set to remove dangling wires in biz district
By Rimaliza Opiña

THE Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco) will reportedly start the removal of wires dangling from their electric posts within Baguio this month.

According to Beneco general manager Gerardo Verzosa in a letter to re-elected Councilor Rocky Thomas Balisong, chairman of the City Council Committee on Public Utilities, the initial operation would start in three areas - from Bell Church to the corner of Dizon Subdivision along Lower Magsaysay Avenue; from the Baguio Center Mall to the Episcopal Church also along Magsaysay; and along Lower General Luna.

Verzosa said the operation would start as soon as they are done with the replacement of all of their old poles.

Prior to the elections, Beneco committee, two telephone companies and two local cable television companies agreed to, on their own, to remove sagging wires from old Beneco poles and transfer them to concrete poles that were built to accommodate the wires of these utility companies.

But aside from those removed in the market area, wires were still left unattended in other spots of the city.

Balisong said these observations should prompt Beneco to take action and remove all other wires that are still left dangling.

"May I therefore request your good office to do what is necessary under the circumstances, in accordance with our agreement with these companies, in our meeting held in the early part of this year," Balisong appealed in a letter to Verzosa.
