Sunday, July 01, 2007 Centennial city mayor vows good governance By Rimaliza Opiña
"I MAY not lead you to the promised land, but I will be a lion leading a group of lions, and not a herd of sheep."
Vowing to unite city officials by listening to fresh ideas and the advises of the old, Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. vowed Saturday that his form of good governance means passing on the good old ways of Baguio to the present and future generations to come.
Admitting that his being elected as Baguio's centennial mayor is quite a tall order, Bautista, in his inaugural speech said, he would want a working relationship with the City Council, the private sector and the civil society where there is a shared direction and a blending of ideas.
To achieve this, Bautista said, he would be flexible and would share the same direction where only the best for Baguio would ensue.
"Thank you for making Baguio ripe," Bautista said, referring to Baguio's mayors while declaring that more than the building of monuments, he would endeavor to adopt a nostalgic Baguio - one that highlights the Cordilleran culture.
For his part, Baguio Representative Mauricio Domogan advised the 38-year old mayor to start working to address the present problems that beset the city.
But while affirming Bautista's declaration that he would heed the advice of the old, Domogan warned that a lot of work is still needed. "Words are easily uttered, but performance is difficult to accomplish."
