Dad wants closure of Burnham roads to vehicular traffic

WITH the aim of regaining the promenade space at Burnham Park, Councilor Richard Cariño this week proposed for the closure of the roads surrounding Burnham Lake from vehicular traffic.

He said this is to give park goers more space to enjoy and to also improve the ambient quality of air at the park, which he pointed out, was also affected after the City Government allowed the use of Burnham Lake drive as alternate route for east-bound vehicles a few years back.

Only government vehicles doing service and maintenance at the park should be allowed to enter the park’s premises, he suggested.

But while Cariño is proposing for the park's closure to vehicular traffic, Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. has also announced his plans of reviving the proposal to use another vacant portion of the park as temporary vending site.

Identified as temporary site is the vacant lot between the Children's Playground the Orchidarium.

Although the proposal has not been formally transmitted to the City Council, a member said there has to be an assurance that the area would indeed be used temporarily and that zoning has to be strictly imposed. (Rimaliza Opiña)
