TO EASE gridlock being experienced along the main thoroughfare of La Trinidad, establishment of traffic lights are being considered at the highway junctions here.
Traffic personnel have recommended the putting up of traffic lights in at least four road intersections along the national highway to ease traffic congestion, especially during rush hours.
La Trinidad Mayor Artemio Galwan said he would talk the proposal over with the Department of Public Work and Highways.
According to Galwan, the proposal would not only address the problem on traffic but would also save the government money because there would be no need to station traffic personnel along the road.
"The traffic lights would be installed at the junction of Pines Park along Km 4, junction of the road leading to the public market, the intersection going to Balili (in front of the La Trinidad Municipal Hall) and at the junction at Poblacion," he said.
Aside from traffic lights, the local government would also propose the construction of concrete center islands along the highway.
"The establishment of permanent center islands would prevent motorists from unnecessary u-turns. We are considering these proposals because we see that they are doable," Galwan said.
Motorists from Baguio City usually experience traffic jams along the stretch of Km 4 to Km 5, while those from Northern Benguet, they experience gridlock at Km 6 to Km 4.
