Monday, July 09, 2007 Hedcor, AGFI award stipends to host community students
Hedcor Inc. and the Aboitiz Group Foundation Inc. (AGFI) turned over more than P20,000 stipend allowances to 15 high school students from its host communities in Sablan, Tuba, and La Trinidad.
The turnover was held at the Department of Education (DepEd) Division Office with Hedcor Vice President Miguel Romero-Salas and AGFI representatives Romeo Catingub and Jowelle Cruz handing over P1,500 to each student. Also attending the ceremony were DepEd Benguet Division Superintendent Mary Namuhe, Sablan National High School Principal Miala Caliging, Tuba National High School Principal Amado Hipol, and Benguet National High School representative Corazon Alos.
“We would like to thank our partners in education, Hedcor and AGFI, for continuing their commitment to our students. I know that this amount will greatly help them throughout the school year and will inspire them more to do their best in their studies,” said Namuhe.
In line with Hedcor and AGFI’s ongoing program supporting public education, the stipend for top students of host communities aims to help augment expenses on books, transportation and allowance.
“We believe in investing in the future, and you are our future,” said Romero-Salas in addressing the students.
Hedcor grants each student P3,000 per school year financial assistance based on their academic performance the previous year. The other half of the recipients’ stipends would be turned over on November.
Since the program started in 2003, Hedcor and AGFI have turned over more than P270,000 in financial assistance grants. The company also supports three college scholars, all indigents in Benguet and Davao.
Hedcor, the largest developer of run-of-river hydropower in the Philippines, owns 16 hydropower facilities in Benguet, Ilocos Sur, and Davao with a total installed capacity of 109 megawatts of clean energy.
AGFI is the social development arm of the Aboitiz group of companies. The foundation intends to address the needs of host communities in areas concerning education, enterprise development, and primary health care.-pr
