No business permit for Jadewell: Bautista

MAYOR Reinaldo Bautista Jr. has assured that the Baguio City will not entertain any application for business permit that may be filed by Jadewell Parking Systems Corporation (Jadewell).

The mayor said he has directed City Treasurer Thelma Manaois to exercise care in scrutinizing business permit applications to make sure that application by Jadewell or any other illegal business will not pass through unscrupulously.

Bautista said he himself has learned to be meticulous in signing business permit forms scrutinizing the details of such applications to make sure that no illegal business applications will escape his watch.

Jadewell’s operation, which had time and again been assailed during the term of former Mayor Braulio Yaranon and until the time of Bautista’s takeover as acting mayor, was finally stopped last November after the City Council repealed the ordinance and rescinded the contract that authorized its operation in year 2001.

At present, the City is awaiting the final decision of the Supreme Court (SC) on the case questioning the constitutionality of the pay parking firm’s operation in the city. A bevy of court cases have arisen since the main case was filed which all remained unresolved up to the present. (Aileen Refuerzo)
