Jobs fair, career expo set

EMPLOYMENT tops the list of the priorities of the Baguio City Government as jobs fair would be conducted from July 11 to 13 at the FGB Hall of the University of Baguio at General Luna Road.

Baguio Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. spearheaded the activity as he intends to make Baguio not only as a center for education but also a center for employment.

"Students who come up here do not only think of Baguio as a place for attaining education, after they graduate, they come back as they see the city has opportunities for jobs," he said.

What makes the jobs fair extraordinary is that a career talk is included in the package of services, he said.

Labor Regional Director Ana Dione said: "Although we have graduates, they still need pointers and orientation from the sectors where they are going to be employed at. We have invited resource speakers to talk about marketing yourself, getting your resume noticed and decorum in the workplace to really enhance employability of our jobseekers."

The career talk would be held every 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily throughout the affair.

The jobs fair would offer variety of local job vacancies from hotel workers, call center agents, IC assemblers, sales representatives/assistants, office workers, English tutors/teachers, laborers, cooks, engineers and others. Overseas vacancies include nurses, engineers, miners, caretakers, factory workers, welders, mason, pipe fitters, heavy equipment operators and drivers.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) will facilitate a free training scholarship and skills assessment. Jobseekers who have relatives abroad can also make a free IDD call courtesy of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDTC). Online job search is also available for those who opt to apply through the Internet.

Dubbed "Trabaho.. Trabaho.. At Iba Pa..," this city-led activity is in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Tesda, Department of Tourism, Department of Trade and Industry, Philippine Information Agency, People Management Association of the Philippines-Baguio Chapter (PMAP), PLDTC, University of Baguio and Baguio-Benguet Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc.
