Monday, July 16, 2007 City awards nominations until July 26
THE screening committee has reset to July 26 the deadline for the submission of nominations for this year's outstanding Baguio citizens, young men and women and outstanding non-government, people's and volunteers' organizations.
Bishop Carlito Cenzon, Baguio's Catholic vicar apostolic and co-chairperson of the committee created by Baguio Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. to select this year's awardees--who would be honored on September 1, Baguio Day, said nomination forms for the three award categories may be obtained and submitted to the office of City Administrator Peter Fianza, the information division of the Office of the City Mayor or the YMCA of Baguio.
The award for outstanding citizen is annually bestowed to individuals who are 35 years old and over for their significant contributions to various fields, including public and community service, sports, the arts, environment and education.
Nominees for the outstanding young men and women must not be over 35 years old and have demonstrated leadership talent and effort towards the development of the city.
Both outstanding citizens and youth must be either Baguio-born or have resided in the city for at least 10 years, of known integrity and unquestionable moral character and not a previous recipient of the award they are being nominated for.
Organizations that have made substantial contributions to the accomplishment of the city's development mission and vision will also be selected and honored during the Baguio Day program.
Headed by the mayor, the search committee this year is composed of Engr. Felino Lagman and Judge Heilia Mallare-Philipps (professional), Dr. Pricilla Macansantos (academe), Eliral Refuerzo (media), Divina Bautista and Art Tibaldo (culture and the arts), Dr. Charles Cheng and Juan Carlos Anton (sports), Ivy Ng (business), Ernesto Esguerra (NGO), Laurence Adube (barangay), Councilor Leonardo Bayan Jr. and a student council assembly representative (youth).
