Bautista said this would also be the proper time to check if these establishments were issued business permits.
The ambush inspections and possible cancellation of permits, if found that liquor is served to minors, are an offshoot to the City Government's ongoing drive against the increasing number of gangs involved in brawls, harassment of other youth and other crimes.
Bautista said he also intends to return the Permits and Licensing Division under the direct supervision of the City Mayor's Office, instead of the current set-up where it is under the supervision of the City Treasurer's Office.
Meanwhile, the mayor appealed to relatives of those who were harassed, hurt or even killed by gang members not to take the law into their own hands.
He said steps have been made to curtail the number of crimes perpetrated by juvenile gangs.
And although he vowed to utilize an iron hand in its implementation, Bautista said he also heeded the advice of members of his internal security council that the youth who were involved in gangs have to undergo counseling and be integrated once more into society. (RO)
