Vice mayor wants city to take over infra works

TO SAVE on government funds, the Baguio City Government should consider that execution of infrastructure projects be done by personnel from the City Engineer's Office (CEO), said Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas.

Fariñas said this is also to maximize the functions of the CEO.

In cases where there is not enough personnel to carry out some jobs, Fariñas said the city could hire job order personnel to complete a project.

"Projects should now be by administration," the councilor said in a press briefing after he appealed to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to remedy the asphalt overlay that was washed out by scraping the remaining layers.

As soon as the weather gets better, Fariñas suggested that the DPWH resumes the restoration of the asphalt overlay in national roads here to avoid clogging the drainages brought about by pebbles and mud that were washed out by strong rains.

The DPWH, meanwhile, already ordered contractors to repair the asphalt overlay at their own expense. The project falls within the one-year warranty period.

Chuntug Street, Governor Pack Road, Chanum Street, Harrison Road and Magsaysay Avenue are the national roads where the asphalt overlays were placed. (RO)
