Governance training for lady leaders up

POLITICALLY inclined women in Baguio can enhance their governing and leadership skills as well as heighten their chance of winning come barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections this October.

This as the Baguio City Government, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) in partnership with Balikatan sa Kaunlaran-Baguio, the umbrella organization of women's group in the city, would conduct women in governance seminar to provide women barangay officers and women who want to run in SK election leadership background on barangay affairs.

Slated this afternoon at the City Multipurpose Hall, the seminar also aims to show women various styles of leadership in barangay and how to win in the election.

Betty Fangasan, secretary of the Balikatan sa Kaunlaran and CSWDO head, said Balikatan, as a partner NGO, serves in anyway that affects women.

Aside from the governance seminar, Balikatan also empowers women through its livelihood projects and trainings on reproductive health, Fangasan said.

As one of the 12 recipients nationwide of an Avon grant, Balikatan sa Kaunlaran Baguio would also receive P100,000 to be used for programs on reproductive health among indigenous women.

Other projects supported by Balikatan for this year include orientation in four barangays for project implementation, parenting seminar in September, activities for the United Nations Day celebrations, and the launching of the search for best barangay women's group in November.
