Tuesday, August 28, 2007 GSIS told to clarify complaints
THE Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is expected to attend the upcoming session of the Baguio City Council following complaints about services offered by the agency.
The decision to invite GSIS representatives was in response to the proposed resolution of Councilor Fred Bagbagen who asked Baguio Representative Mauricio Domogan to investigate the alleged improprieties in the use of the electronic card (e-card) system.
But the e-card problem is not the only complaint lodged against the GSIS.
Recently, Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda also asked the GSIS to come up with a comparative analysis and precise definitions of the Life Endowment Plan vis-ŕ-vis Republic Act (RA) 8291 or the GSIS Act of 1997.
She also urged the GSIS to condone the penalties of casual city employees and the City Government who were not able to pay their contributions, which she attributed to erroneous advice from the agency itself.
"The effect of the erroneous advice from GSIS is grossly unfair since they are deprived of government share and if they opt to pay, they would pay for interest, for which GSIS is at fault," Tabanda said.
The lady councilor also proposed that the issue should be brought to the attention of the GSIS central office allegedly for prejudicing employees. (RO)
