THE Tuba Municipal Government in Benguet is pushing for the approval of the town's cadastral survey saying it would put an end to the numerous boundary conflicts hounding the locality.
Councilor Blas Dalus, chair of the municipal council committee on lands, said the approval of the cadastral survey would finally solve the existing boundary tiffs between the municipality and its surrounding areas.
Tuba has an existing boundary conflict with Baguio City, La Union Province and Pangasinan. Aside from the outside conflicts, the town also has an unresolved boundary dispute with the municipality of Itogon, Benguet.
The municipality is considered the local government unit in Benguet with the most number of boundary disputes.
Aside from the resolution of boundary tiffs, reclassification of the town's forest lands is also among the major concerns officials here want to be addressed.
Earlier, the town asked the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for a reclassification of the town's forest, pasture and timber lands to agricultural and industrial lands, to respond to the changing land needs of the constituents.
Majority of the forest lands are being converted into agricultural purposes, to meet the growing needs of the municipality for food production, thus the need to for a land reclassification, officials said.
