Collapsible parking building more practical: councilor

A COLLAPSIBLE multi-level parking structure is a better option than a permanent structure, especially if this would be put up in an area still subject of a court case.

A collapsible parking building is also cheaper, said Baguio Councilor Antonio Tabora Jr., chairman of the City Council committee on public works.

One level of the proposed structure, which measures 15 feet high, could accommodate 150 cars.

Tabora said the putting up a multi-level parking building had been a long-time project which was not implemented because there is no site available for construction.

At best, a collapsible parking building could solve this because the facility can be transferred once a permanent site is identified, he added.

Other areas suggested for a multi-level parking building include one at Kisad Road near the Pine Trees of the World Park, the site of the former city auditorium, the vacant lot between the Children's Playground and the orchidarium and the Ganza parking area, all within the Burnham Park property, as well as the vacant lot atop Session Road where Mario's Restaurant used to be located.

Except for the site at Session Road which was never discussed, all of the suggested locations drew objection because of a prohibition that no vertical infrastructure could be constructed within the park. (RO)
