Barangays told to submit list of frat members

THE Baguio City Government has enlisted the assistance of barangay officials in its continuing campaign to curb fraternity-related violence.

Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. said there would be no let-up in the implementation of measures to prevent juvenile crimes in the city, particularly gang wars.

The mayor earlier imposed an order imposing an earlier curfew time for minors in the city to keep the youth from the streets on the hours that gang rumbles usually occur. The order is expected to be made permanent via an appropriate ordinance at the City Council.

Recently, the Special Services Division of the City Mayor’s Office also issued a directive to all barangay heads to help in the campaign against gang wars by forwarding information on the identities of fraternity members in their respective barangays to the city police for action.

“With the continued and unabated social problems brought about by the different contending fraternities in our city, all barangays are directed to identify the identities of these fraternity members who are based or are residents in your area of jurisdiction and report the same to the police for proper monitoring, action and coordination,” noted the directive from Community Affairs head Laurence Adube.

Adube said the directive is in response to the numerous verbal requests reaching their office requesting for action against the fraternity menace.

The move is seen to help in the continuing campaign. (AR)
