Saturday, September 29, 2007 Employment aid for ex-Jadewell workers backed By Rimaliza Opiña
THE City Government is willing to assist displaced employees of Jadewell Parking Systems Corporation.
Although there are no available jobs for them at City Hall yet, Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas said recommendation letters to companies could be issued for the parking firm's employees who lost their jobs after the City Council rescinded its contract with Jadewell last year.
Fariñas also said they would encourage businesses operating here to consider hiring former Jadewell employees.
Jadewell had at least 20 employees, comprised mostly of parking attendants.
After Jadewell owners Rogelio and Norma Tan left for Manila, most of their employees found themselves jobless.
The Ganza parking area, the site of Jadewell’s off-street parking operation, has been utilized as a carwash area by some former employees of the firm.
It may be recalled that the council rescinded the contract with Jadewell last year after noting that the firm allegedly committed several violations in its contract.
In response, Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. approved the resolution and subsequently denied Jadewell's application for a business permit.
