'Great Fights at the Heights' in Baguio set

A MAJOR boxing event dubbed "Great Fights at the Heights," which features Filipino and Indonesian contenders to the World Boxing Organization's lightweight and flyweight championships, is scheduled on Saturday at the Baguio Convention Center.

Presented by Baguio Everlasting Sports Promotions, all bouts starting at 7 p.m. were given prior approval by the Games and Amusement Board.

Updates on the Kadayawan Festival 2007

Pitted against each other in the 10-round 130-pounds main event is Amor Tino, RP's junior lightweight number 7 from the Everlasting Stable versus Michel "Speed" Sigarlaki, Indonesia's junior lightweight number 3 from Jakarta. They will be fighting for the interim junior WBO lightweight championship.

The championship belt will be donated and awarded by Baguio Representative Mauricio Domogan.

Vying for the interim junior WBO flyweight championship are Ryan Maliteg, RP's flyweight number 7 from the Everlasting Stable versus Sam Burdam, Indonesia's junior flyweight number 4 from Jakarta.

The championship belt in this 10-round 112-pounds bout will be donated and awarded by Baguio Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr.

In the supporting events, a 10-round 105-pounds fight will find Dennis Juntillano, RP's mini-flyweight number 10 from the Everlasting Stable against Wendel Cajoles, RP's junior flyweight number 9 from Mandaluyong City.

The golden trophy in this event will be donated and awarded by Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas.

Before that, another 10-round 108-pounds bout featuring Tommy Terado, RP's junior flyweight number 12 from the Everlasting Stable pitted against Steve Dimaisip from the Wild Card Gym in Parañaque City.

The golden trophy in this fight will be donated and awarded by Baguio Councilor Nick Aliping.

Prior to this, Jake Sevillano of the Everlasting Stable will be fighting versus Mike Tumbaga of the Brico Santig Stable in La Trinidad, Benguet.

The golden trophy in this eight-round 130-pounds competition will be donated and awarded by Baguio Councilor Erdolfo Balajadia.

As curtain raisers, Jun-Jun Bolcio of the Everlasting Stable will be pitted against Ryan Willis of the Brico Santig Stable in La Trinidad, Benguet; while Ryan Paran of the Everlasting Stable in Bokod, Benguet will go face-to-face with Santos Calalanoy of the Brico Santig Stable in La Trinidad, Benguet.

These curtain raisers will be six-round 112-pounds and four-round 122-pounds bouts, respectively.

Sponsors of the event include the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corporation, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, San Miguel Corporation, former Manila congressman Mark Jimenez, Land Bank of the Philippines, Philippine Veterans Bank and Camp John Hay Manor. (ENO)
