More cops for Benguet towns sought
By Jane Cadalig

ELDERS in Benguet raised a concern on the dumping of cadavers in different areas in the province, saying this poses a threat to the security and investment opportunities for the province.

The senior citizens in the province asked the Provincial Police Office to detail additional officers to the different municipal police offices to help in patrolling the remote areas.

Far-flung areas in Benguet have been the usual dumping sites of dead persons, who are believed killed in other areas but are being brought to these remote Benguet areas.

In a resolution, the senior citizens, who sat as Provincial Board (PB) members on Monday, asked the police to assign additional officers in the municipal police offices to help address the problem.

The elders said the peaceful image of Benguet is being tainted by the dumping of cadavers in several areas here.

"The dumping of cadavers has alarmed not only the constituents but also the prospective businessmen. This gives bad image to the province, and must be checked to preserve the peaceful image of the province," they said.

Dead persons, believed killed either in Baguio or other neighboring provinces, have been dumped along Ambuklao Road in Beckel or Longlong, both remote barangays of La Trinidad. Others were found along the national roads traversing the municipality of Tuba.

The elders said designating additional police officers in the municipalities would help in curtailing the dumping of dead persons.
